PUPPIES AND PAPERCLIPS
Puppies don't have belly buttons. I think that's because there is a magnet where the belly button should be which attracts every dangerous metallic object possible while the pup is snooting around the yard and house. Rusty nails, pieces of fireplace screen, jumbo size paperclips. All stuff he shouldn't have, yet Aslan the metal mouthed monster joyfully brings them to me and tosses them at my feet as if to brag about exactly the thing he shouldn't have touched.
Aren't we like that? We go nosing into stuff that we have no business touching, exactly the stuff the LORD has told us to keep out of and that we know we shouldn't have anything to do with. Yet there we are, with our mouths full and flaunting it at Him with no regret at all, ignoring all the good things the LORD offers us instead.
Isaiah quotes GOD this way in chapter 55 of his book in the Bible: "Why do you spend money on what is not food and work for what does not satisfy? Listen to me and eat what is good, and let your soul enjoy itself in fatness."
In a few days it will be Christmas, when we celebrate the birth of JESUS the Savior who came to satisfy the hunger of our souls. May we learn to trust Him to fill us with the satisfaction of eternal life that only He can give and leave the nasty stuff of this world behind.
