Perspective on the Way
If you're like me, something happened today...or recently...that threw you off balance and hurt you in a way that knocked the breath out of you. Or, of not, it will soon. There you are, going along familiar roads when some emotional storm comes along and wipes away what is familiar to you. You can't get your bearings anymore and feel lost in once familiar surroundings.
We hear John 3:16 so often that even nonbelievers at football games can quote it. "For GOD so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting Life."
If we really internalized that we wouldn't have the trauma we do. Or rather, we would still have the trauma but it wouldn't have the same effect. We could, as JESUS says, "be of good cheer" in spite of the tribulation because He has "overcome the world."
How we get there is the mystery. You've got to be careful of the folks who say they have all the answers because they're the ones who'll be knocked further off the map when the tragedies hit. The only way to really keep your compass bearings when every landmark (like the twin towers or emotional twin towers in your life) is gone is to have the perspective of GOD, Who is above and below and around the map, and (for us Christians) walks along the road through the devastation as well, showing us the way to our real Home.
