The Broken Vase
Sin is like a crystal vase, the hopes and potential of humanity smashed by self-will into a million pieces that cut into the human soul. Some believe that they can fix the problem themselves. They think that they can pick out the shards that cut into their lives and can make a useful thing of the vase again...an immoral relationship, something justified "just this once"...a "love" relationship outside of the will of GOD...theft...anger...hatred...All can be picked out, so they believe, and they can stand on their own merits before the GOD of eternity on Judgement Day, smile and say "I did my best."
But the vase is still broken...the pieces too fine to even feel as they find their way into your vital organs. Tiny, microscopic pieces of sin that invade your fingers and touch what you touch...pieces of glass that blur your vision and make you believe illusions...rainbows of imagination where judgment will be made.
Cut the sacrifice. Lay it on the altar! A bloody business...innocent lambs, guiltless doves; slaughtered, bloody, destroyed. Something horrendous about it...disgusting! YES! Sin is a bloody, disgusting business. It doesn't just go on the scapegoat's head; it is in every organ on the altar...in every area and aspect of life...and we cannot hope to remove every speck. Yet all it takes is one iota...one infinitesimal speck...to seperate us from the Perfection that is GOD.
What to do?
Sacrifice!! Piercing...not glass, but nails...SPIKES...driven through the Hands, the Feet, the Very GOD of Very GOD, the Lamb Who comes to take away the sins of the world. And Who comes to have mercy on us...every speck, every soul, who's willing to let Him remove all sin as only He can through His own sacrifice for us in His Neme, His Power, His Blood, His new life...JESUS, our only Hope.
